Dance Masters of America’s Teachers Training School wishes to express our sincere appreciation to our attendees for their loyal support as we celebrate the programs Fiftieth year.

TTS was established at the turn of the century because DMA wanted to offer to its members

and future members a professional program that provides both basic and advanced teaching techniques for all Dance Educators. The focus of the program is on education, where attendees learn proven teaching principles, fundamental dance techniques, build a core dance syllabus, and methods for successfully applying these skills in the classroom.

Although the Dance Masters of America has always included a program for the training of dance educators into their curriculum, it wasn’t until 1970 when it was moved to Kent State University where it evolved into the program known as the “Dance Masters of America Teachers Training School.” To accommodate the rapidly growing enrollment and to further enhance the program, Dance Masters of America Teachers Training School was moved to the beautiful facilities of the State University of New York at Buffalo’s Center for the Arts.

Master teachers instruct classes in teaching techniques for all disciplines of dance: ballet, tap, jazz, modern, lyrical, theatre dance, Hip Hop and specialty classes.

In recognition of this Golden Anniversary, we are inviting all present and former attendees

to celebrate this great achievement.

Mandatory registration for all participants will be July 29th time to be announced.

Mission Statement

To provide a comprehensive curriculum, an outstanding faculty, a unique focus on technique and teaching skills, and the nurturing of camaraderie among fellow Dance Educators.

To provide both a creative and structured pathway for quality learning by recognizing the full potential of dance education and the many integrated inroads that will benefit teachers and their promising students.

Object Statement

Successful completion of the four-year program and examinations result in Dance Masters of America certification in dance education, where teachers are certified by test to teach.

Dance Masters of America Teachers Training School

Graduate Master’s Program in Dance Education (Tier 5)

This program is an extension of years 1-4. Students will have the opportunity to further their education in the core subjects (ballet, tap, jazz and modern) for an additional 2 years, testing out in the third year. Students will participate in a designed curriculum for the Master’s Program. Students can choose to specialize in one or all 4 core classes.

Eligibility for this program requires successfully testing in core subjects you will study in the Master’s Program. Those who graduated TTS prior to Modern being a core subject must take the modern TTS exam before entering the modern specialization.

During the first year the focus will be on pedagogy in the specialized core subject. Studying technique, practical applications, and history will also be included. View this as an intensification of years 1-4.

During year two there will be concentration on the artistic and creative process dealing in the specialized core subject. Choreography (recital, concert, competitions, site specific) and use of improvisation will be explored. Choreographic tools and approaches will be presented in classes during year 2.

The test out year (third year) includes a class presentation in a specific core technique or a creative directing class incorporating creative movement/choreography/improvisation. The test out will be scheduled during the optional class times. A modest stipend is provided to the candidate for their presentation. Students are required to hand in a class outline for approval prior to their presentation.

The best part is you pay the regular fees and there are no additional fees for this program. Below is the schedule for the upcoming years.
